Judgments - What's been going on?
Speaking of which, I've been writing a lot more lately. I finished fifty pages of fiction in less than a week, and I have been outlining a massive romantic realistic fiction novel. The latter has an anti-public education message. I got the idea in a dream back when I lived in Harlem. On the sci-fi front, I've got about a dozen short stories to send to publishers and my own take on the idea of superheroes.
I was concerned about "Heroes" ripping off my idea, but they failed massively on that front. My take is much more realistic and darker, particularly the first half; the end is weirdly optimistic but awesome. There is a lot of social commentary because, unlike so many other super hero stories, the characters do not have secret identities and most are exposed immediately. What would happen to people who could fly, or walk through walls, or control fire - what would be the fate of such people in our society today? What would happen to their families, their careers, their reputations? Would it ruin their lives, or would society embrace them? Such stories provide ample opportunity for allegory, philosophical speculation and social commentary. Whereas Heroes did fuckall on this point I plan to examine a lot of moral questions.
I'm thinking mine will work best as a manga. I would love to release a graphic novel someday, though I have to decide if it's easier to learn to draw myself or find an artist. Probably the latter.
I also deleted my video game blog. Since I got a decent job writing reviews for RPGfan.com, I don't need another platform to update where I'll just repeat the same shit. Someday soon, I will jazz this site up with a new domain name, forums, archives, and other resources. I may have a section on video game commentary. I don't really want to be a video game blogger anyway. To get attention you have to either be a shill or an elitist, and I'd rather spend my time playing video games than arguing about them.
I'm spent.
