It's absolutely sick what happened to that child. I read that story with disgust and was amazed when, at first, the sheriffs argued that there was no reason to think the other child in the home was endangered. These parents stood idly by while their baby died a slow agonizing death. Can anyone argue that children are safe in such a home?
I'm all about individual rights and I absolutely hate the government interfering with parental rights. However children have rights too. This is a fifteen month old we're talking about. At that age, a child is completely dependent on the competence and rationality of their parents. These religious nutjobs are about as fit to be parents as a pack of rabid dogs. The first right that governments must secure and protect is the right to life (no, fetuses don't count) and no one's idiotic superstitions give them the right let their children suffer and die.
